Winter Streetwear Trends with Universal Store

Published on 04 April 2018

This week, Watergardens welcomes its first Universal Store. A favourite for on-trend streetwear and casualwear, Universal Store has worked hard this season to bring in iconic brands including Tommy Jeans, FILA, Lacoste and Calvin Klein. Evidently, the 90s revival is in full swing. To point us in the right direction, we asked Universal Store stylist and creative coordinator, Kate Charchalis along with content manager Courtney Judd to highlight the key autumn-winter streetwear trends.

Hoodies and Sweats

Lazy dressers, we’ve got good news for you: this winter, you can leave your sweats on and still be on-trend. Now is the perfect time to look fashionably laid back in 90s-style sporty hoodies and sweats, a la Bella Hadid and co. Go for strong block colours and don’t be afraid to head out in the full sweat suit.

Checked Blazers

The Clueless dream is alive and well with matching sets in striking checks of varying colours. Grey and black tones are popular and can slot into most wardrobes, but if you’re feeling bold, look out for the red, yellow and green colourways dropping for autumnwinter 2018.

Vintage Wash Denim

Falling perfectly in line with the 90s throwback vibe is the faded, vintage wash jean. Old is new again when it comes to denim – it’s all about the high rise, mum jean. Need some pointers? Head to YouTube for some classic 90s denim inspo via 90201 and Friends.

Chunky Sneakers

The sneaker movement has gone from the streets to high fashion and back again. With the runaway hit of Balenciaga’s platform dad sneakers and Louis Vuitton’s exaggerated Archlight style, big sneakers are well and truly back.

Layering

Fleece hoodies under denim jackets will have you feeling nice and toasty this winter. Keep the look clean with jeans in a different shade and a single polished accessory.

Party Shirts

Hawaiian shirts aren’t just for daggy uncles anymore. Soft rayon shirts in tropical prints and slightly washed out colours will keep you feeling the summer vibes all year ‘round. Layer it up with a denim jacket for winter.

Sherpa Jackets

This trend emerged last year and will only grow in strength this winter. Fleece collar details and lining add a slight vintage look while keeping in the warmth.
